I want to say a HUGE thank you to the folks at Fresh Artists. They generously gave our school this Art Chip Kit - a ready to go art mosaic project for up to 150 of our talented kids that includes assorted, brightly colored paint chips from Behr paint company. Our third graders are going to be so excited to start this brand new mosaic project. Can't wait!!
Here is a sample of the work our kids have been doing during the month of January! Samples include 1st grade abstract hearts, Kindergarten and 5th grade self portraits, and 2nd grade Snowman collages. Come visit our school for lunch and take an art walk.
Come on out to Carolina Creations on Pollock street to support Craven County art rooms by purchasing student made cards. ALL process go to the classrooms!!
Our first grade artists were inspired by the story of little Vasaya Kandinsky in "The Noisy Paint Box" to create their heart artwork that makes others feel loved. Vasaya Kandinsky, a Russian painter, is known as the father of abstract art.
We are so blessed to have a Mayor who would take the time to come to our Elementary Winter Festival prior to going to a business meeting to support our children......
Last week Mayor Dana Outlaw visited our school with other distinguished guests for reading time in the classrooms. While here, they visited our students rehearsing for the festival. One of my kids asked who the Mayor was while lining up, so I took her over to him. Through great conversation between the 6 year old and the Mayor, it was said she would save him a seat at the show if he was able to make it. Just as few days later, this little girl was able to welcome the Mayor once again to our school as he enjoyed the show. Thank you Mayor Outlaw and the New Bern community for loving our students! *photo credit: Craven County Schools: JenniferWagner and Leah Yurk Thanks to the generous support of donors from Donors Choose, we have finished our first clay project of the year - First grade clay owls. Thank you so much!! As you can see, the kids loved this project. I could not be more proud of our fifth graders. The past two months we have completed a project on the Principles and Elements of Art as well as created a design for printmaking using these skills. Students created their own printing foam plate and were able to run as many prints as we had time. After an Olympic style critique session discussing strengths and areas for growth, the students chose one print to go towards our district fundraiser hosted by "Carolina Creations", an art store downtown. These cards will be sold for Valentine's Day to the public beginning in mid January. Each card will sell for $3 and the proceeds go towards purchasing art supplies for our room. Be sure to go check them out :)
Third grade students are learning how to hand stitch to create images on Valentine's Cards for a group of deployed Military members.
