Yesterday my husband and I had a errand we had to do in Raleigh. Since it's a two hour drive from New Bern, we chose to make the best of the day and visit the Nc Museum of Art while being out there. What a great visit! The whole trip was free and included an hour long guided tour of the museum's permanent collection ranging from 1600 ad to 2015. Truly a walk through history! Collections include early Italian portraits, Dutch baroque, Rodin sculptures, Egyptian and Classical Greek artifacts, impressionists, American landscapes, and contemporary works.
The pictures I've included highlight some works that I believe our students would enjoy and connect with based on what they are already learning at Oaks Road. It's good to note that the museum loves students! When visiting, the tour guides know how to create an educational experience that your child can understand and enjoy, and will even prompt questions for further analysis. The front desk may even have some family games to play that prompt close observation of pieces as you walk around the gallery together.
So if you want to take a trip that is free entry and could last up to three hours in entertainment, be sure to visit the Nc Museum of Art! Who knows..... You may have the next Picasso or Monet in your family. 😀
