"We had to figure out how people felt on the first day of school" - Brooklyn 4th grade
Fourth graders have been discussing how artists show their emotions in art. We've been using to topic of emotions on the first day of school to fuel exploration of colors that could represent our emotions. Today students analyzed each other's "3 minute" emotion art on sticky notes and then learned about abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky. I emphasized today that his art is void of pictures and instead is made with lines, shapes and colors representing how he feels and the music he enjoys. Next week will begin painting our emotions using our own special art language chart to assist in color, shape and line selection (pictured above left).
